Old Vines Garnacha
Deep red in color, exuberant in aroma with blackberries, light oak, and some roasted coffee notes. The taste starts round, soft, and aromatic; the finish is spicy and smooth.
Juan Pablo Bonete at his best
Juan Pablo Bonete excels in the lesser-known Almansa with this full-bodied, creamy, and accessible-tasting red wine. It is made from Garnacha grapes from vines averaging fifty years old.
The high-altitude vineyard is cultivated without irrigation, which is very unusual in this dry and warm part of Spain. The vines are not trellised and are kept low: so-called 'bush vines' or 'cepas de vaso' in Spanish.
As a result, the yield remains low, and the small grapes retain flavor concentration and freshness. After manual harvesting, alcoholic fermentation takes place in large tanks. The second fermentation and aging of approximately eight months take place in 300-liter barrels made of American oak. The influence of the wood is subtle and well-balanced, with notes of ripe fruit dominating. Very successful!
