Tasting notes La Croix Blanche
Deep yellow in color, powerful and refined in aroma with notes of ripe peach, apricot, and almond. The flavor structure is full, rounded, and sweet, finishing with a lingering, soft finish and plenty of aromatic length.
Description
Sylvie Plessis and her husband Christian make beautiful, dry white wines from the Chenin grape in the small Savennières appellation. The couple also owns a beautiful plot of hillside vineyard in the Coteaux du Layon. At the foot of the hill flows the Sant Lézin stream, providing the much-needed moisture needed to develop the ripe grapes in autumn. Therefore, the Chenin grape is harvested late and by hand here, starting in October, and is harvested in several stages to ensure a high proportion of botrytized grapes are picked. Sylvie's careful vinification produces a flawless, sweet white wine with fantastic terroir and grape expression. Chenin of this caliber is among the great white wines of France and can, if desired, be aged for a long time to develop a great deal of flavor complexity.
