Description

Adventurous and distinctive South African wines off the beaten track—that's Nieuwe Trek! This special series is the result of a collaboration with the Van Niekerk couple, who also produce the wines for the Van Zyl brothers' Piekenierskloof Wine Company.

What's striking about Jaco and Cerina's wines is their exceptional purity and pure fruit character. Take this Pinotage, for example. The Van Niekerks harvest the grapes largely in Swartland and Piekenierskloof. The sheltered location and expert vineyard management ensure exceptionally healthy plants. Thanks to the relatively cool, elevated position of the vineyards, the grapes also perfectly retain their aromas and freshness despite the warm climate.

Once ripe, the grapes are hand-picked. In the cellar, they are crushed, and fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, half of the wine is aged in used oak barrels. After twelve months, the Pinotage is blended and bottled.

It produces a wonderfully smooth, creamy red wine with remarkably pure fruit. It has aromas and flavors of plums, blackberries, and a subtle hint of spice and toast, making it a delightfully drinkable wine. The ideal barbecue wine!
