What a fantastic new addition from winemaker couple Jaco and Cerina van Niekerk! Their New Trek series represents the modern, adventurous style of South Africa and this Chardonnay also lives up to its name.



The wine was created in a special way. As an experiment, Jaco and Cerina made a particularly small edition of Chardonnay in Burgundian style from grapes from the Heidedal vineyard located at an altitude of 650 meters. Not dissatisfied with the result, they sent the wine to Decanter. It promptly resulted in a gold medal.

Naturally, we immediately asked them if the New Trek series could be expanded with this Chardonnay. That was possible! Jaco and Cerina make it from 85% chardonnay from Heidendal and add 15% high-quality chenin blanc from their Bergendal vineyard, planted in 1962, for the fraîcheur. Once pressed, the juice ferments in stainless steel tanks.

Jaco and Cerina then mature the blend on the yeasts for six months in (30% new) oak barrels of 300 liters. The result is simply astonishing: a convincing, balanced South African Chardonnay – and that for less than ten euros.

Drink with

Smooth, wood-matured Chardonnay for solo drinking or as a drinks wine. Delicious with green salad with shrimps and avocado, poached trout or smoked chicken with lime salsa.

Tasting note

Full, dry white wine with an open scent of candied lemon, grapefruit, melon and brioche. Beautifully juicy with pure fruit and an invigorating freshness in the taste. The finale is soft with notes of toast and burnt butter.

Shelf life

Now beautiful and can be kept for up to 4 to 5 years after harvest date.
