Description
'One of Martinborough's finest exponents, I think Palliser Estate deserve as much attention as the likes of Ata Rangi and Martinborough Vineyard because these wines deliver time and time again.' – The Wine Advocate
Martinborough is to Pinot Noir what Marlborough is to Sauvignon Blanc. Along with Central Otago, it's considered New Zealand's premier Pinot Noir region. While production in Martinborough may be minuscule—even by New Zealand standards—the quality is consistently high.
The conditions in Martinborough, located in the south of the North Island, are ideal for Pinot Noir. The region boasts a cool climate with a long, sunny growing season. This allows the grapes to ripen optimally while retaining a beautiful natural acidity. The poor, well-drained, gravelly soils are perfect for excellent Pinot Noir.
Palliser Estate was one of the first estates to establish itself in the region, in 1984. Today, the estate comprises some 72 hectares, spread across seven vineyards on Martinborough Terrace, renowned for its beautiful terroir.
Palliser Estate Pinot Noir is made from vines between five and eighteen years old. The wine ferments with natural yeasts and ages for about a year in wooden barrels, a quarter of which are new. This results in a delicate yet structured Pinot Noir that is delicious now but can easily be aged for another ten years. Ideal with poultry, lamb, or red meat.

Light ruby red color. Subtle and complex with aromas of ripe wild strawberries, cherries, undergrowth, and vanilla. The palate is very seductive and supple with mild tannins and fine acidity. Refined and persistent on the finish.
