Description
One of the key priorities of Romaneira's owner and Bordeaux expert Christian Seely is to demonstrate that the Douro has more to offer than just superb Ports. This ultimate terroir can also produce top-quality still wines, on par with those from Bordeaux, Burgundy, or the Rhône.
The estate produces a wide selection of impressive red wines. This superb wine is made from Touriga Nacional, the Douro's premium grape. The grapes are harvested from three specific steep-slope vineyards ('tres parcelas').
Once harvested, winemaker Carlos Agrellos ferments the grapes in stainless steel tanks for eight days. He then ages the wine in a mix of new and used French oak barrels. This ensures that the oak notes blend beautifully with the fruit and don't become overpowering.
The result is an impressive red Douro with great finesse and depth. The wine combines a refined aroma of violets, ripe dark fruit, and vanilla with a powerful structure and a long finish. The beautiful freshness and supple tannins are striking, making the wine delicious to drink now after a little aeration in a carafe. It pairs beautifully with a nice piece of grilled red meat or aged hard cheese.
