A blend of auxerrois, pinot blanc and pinot gris
By the Sister Order of Saint Catherine Valley
Mild and juicy with notes of pear and melon |
Description
This tasteful white Norbertus is not only a wine from Dutch soil, but also made at the Sint-Catherinadal monastery. Talk about wine with a story!
To ensure their future and the maintenance of the monastery, the ten Norbertine sisters decided in 2014 to plant a vineyard on the 7.5 hectares of land around the monastery. The monastery now has ten hectares of vineyards, planted with chardonnay, auxerrois, pinot blanc, pinot gris, muscat ottonel, pinot noir and gamay.
During the harvest of the grapes and winemaking, the sisters receive help from volunteers and an advising winemaker. The auxerrois, pinot blanc and pinot gris for the white Norbertus are picked by hand and transported to the cuverie in small containers. After a gentle pressing, the juice ferments at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine matures briefly on the yeasts for a smooth, mild taste.
The Norbertus takes its name from the founder of the Norbertine order. It is a nice dry white wine, with a subtle scent of pear and melon and a juicy, mild taste. It is delicious to enjoy on its own, but also very tasty with light fish and vegetable dishes. And the label? It has the same color scheme as the nuns' habit and veil.
Drink at
Accessible, fruity dry white wine to drink solo on the terrace, with drinks or light (fish) dishes. Nice with asparagus with butter sauce, broad bean salad, plaice with spring vegetables or soft cheeses.
Tasting note
Light yellow wine with a subtle scent of apple, pear, melon and green herbs. The taste is smooth and beautifully fruity with balanced acidity. Lingering finish with light almond notes.
