The vineyards of the Weingut Winter family estate are situated in the picturesque, beautiful, rolling countryside of Rheinhessen, around the town of Drittelsheim. The winery was founded in 1949 and has been run by Stefan Winter since 2000. This gifted winemaker has single-handedly ensured that the domain has grown into one of the serious players of Rheinhessen. It is not without reason that the domain has been a member of the prestigious Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) since 2013.
Although Stefan also makes some red wines, the focus on the domain is on white. Riesling is the most important grape, Stefan has also specialized in the so-called Burgunder varieties: chardonnay, weissbrugunder (pinot blanc) and grauburgunder (pinot gris). In recent years, these grapes have been increasingly planted in the region and give very good results.
This weissburgunder is a good example of this. The grapes come from calcareous soils, which makes for a distinctive, refined wine. Drink it as it is, as an aperitif, or with light summer dishes such as salad or white fish.
