Tasting note Castelo de Medina VS Sauvignon Blanc

Beautiful dry white wine with the characteristic aroma of fresh boxwood notes, citrus and nice toast aromas. The taste is dry and fresh in texture and ends with a fragrant and persistent aftertaste.

The Spanish Castelo de Medina is known as a producer of modern fresh white wines with an expressive aroma and taste. Outstanding features of good quality rueda. A few years ago, winemaker Sara Román was given the green light to make two wines that exceed the level of 'ordinary' rueda. We already introduced the verdejo vendimia seleccionada best Spanish white wine at the Mundus Vini competition in 2014. The impressive sauvignon vendimia seleccionada is now available. For this wine Sara selected the oldest vineyards with sauvignon grapes and drastically limited the yield. She did this through strict pruning and a green harvest of up to 30% of the amount allowed for rueda. During the harvest she also made a selection of the most ripe and healthy grapes. After picking and temperature-controlled fermentation, maturation of yeast cells took about eight months. This originally French wine technique ('sur lie') is now used worldwide and provides more complexity and taste. Aging on yeast will only have a positive effect if the harvested grapes are in perfect condition, so they are optimally ripe and without fungi. Hence the strict selections in the vineyard. And you can clearly taste that in this special dry white sauvignon: a lot of taste refinement and length. This wine can even mature in the bottle for several years. Highly recommended.
