Description
Piedmont is best known for its fine red wines. Conterno Fantino in Monforte d'Alba specializes in Barolo and Barbera and is considered one of the top producers. As a speciality, they also produce a small quantity of red from the Dolcetto grape. This grape is planted on a vineyard of approximately 4 hectares in the Barolo region near Monforte. It is a wine that is particularly appealing for its fruity and mild flavor. To maximize the characteristics of the Dolcetto grape, the wine is not aged in small oak barrels but remains in a large tank until bottling.
Robert Parker: Conterno-Fantino is one of a handful of properties that deliver outstanding quality throughout their entire range. Conterno-Fantino remains a leading exponent of the modern school of Barolo but today macerations are longer than normal casks have been added to French oak barriques and the wines are more polished than they have ever been.
