Tasting note Cazas Novas
A fresh, clean, dry white wine with fruity aromas of apple, peach, and a touch of citrus. Juicy and aromatic, beautifully balanced, and with a fragrant finish.
Description
There's a new style of vinho verde that alert sommeliers are now eager to stock. It's on a whole different level than the slightly sweet and slightly sparkling wines you might recognize from a holiday in Portugal. This new, dry wine is packed with ripe fruit and has an appealing freshness, making it an excellent food pairing.
A small group of producers, including the acclaimed Anselmo Mendes, is driving the quality revolution this region needs. "There is life after Sauvignon Blanc," wrote an English wine writer who was enchanted by the Cazas Novas vinho verde. We found this beautiful wine from the small producer Cazas Novas, who cultivates approximately thirty hectares of their own vineyard in the Baião subregion. This is the warmest and driest part of the typically cool and humid vinho verde region.
The wines possess a ripe and full-bodied taste, yet retain the fresh, almost mineral character of vinho verde. Anselmo Mendes consults with Cazas Novas and, together with winemaker Diogo Fonseca Lopes, ensures impeccable quality with a distinct Mendes signature.
This blend is made from two local grape varieties: Avesso (75%) and Loureiro (25%). It's made entirely without oak, preserving the beautiful and distinctive grape aromas. Highly recommended as an introduction to the vinho verde of the future.

Gedronken bij Restaurant Het Magazijn. Meteen maar een paar flessen gehaald bij Boonstoppel wijnen. Heerlijk strak droog
