Tasting note Cazas Novas
Fresh, pure dry white wine with a fruity aroma of apple, peach and some citrus. Juicy and aromatic in taste, nicely balanced and a fragrant aftertaste.
There is a new style vinho verde, which now eager to buy sommeliers. This is of a completely different level than the slightly sweet and slightly sparkling wines that you may know from a holiday in Portugal. The new, dry wine is full of ripe fruit and has an attractive freshness, which makes the wine extremely well-matched with dishes.
A small group of producers, including the acclaimed Anselmo Mendes, is causing the quality revolution that this area needs. There is life after sauvignon blanc, wrote an English wine writer who was delighted by the Cazas Novas vinho verde. We found this beautiful wine from the small producer Cazas Novas, who cultivates about 30 hectares of his own vineyard in the sub-region of Baião. This is the warmest and most dry part of the normally cool and humid vinho verde area.
The wines have a ripe and mouth-filling taste, but while maintaining the fresh, almost mineral character of vinho verde. Anselmo Mendes is attached to Cazas Novas as advisor and, together with winemaker Diogo Fonseca Lopes, ensures impeccable quality with a clear Mendes signature.
This blend is made from two local grape varieties: avesso (75%) and loureiro (25%). Completely made without contact with oak, so that the beautiful and distinctive grape flavors are preserved. Highly recommended as an introduction to the vinho verde of the future.
