From one of the very best bodegas in Rías Baixas
Cool climate wine par excellence, complex and refined
Wonderful with shellfish, grilled fish and as an aperitif
The pure, authentic Albariño of Galician Rodrigo Méndez distinguishes itself to a great extent from the wide range of cold-fermented, more one-dimensional, standardized white wines from other producers.
Rodrigo started his Bodega Forjas del Salnés in 2005, with the now legendary Raúl Pérez as cellar master. The domain is located in the village of Meaño, less than three kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean. Rodrigo wanted to return to a natural, original way of winemaking.
He cultivates his vineyards organically, harvests manually and intervenes in the cellar as little as possible. Fermentation takes place spontaneously, through natural wild yeasts. Unlike most Albariños, the lactic acid fermentation is not carried out here, which preserves the typical freshness of the Atlantic Salnés valley. After fermentation, the wine stays for seven months in stainless steel tanks and in old, large oak barrels (20%).
It is hard to imagine that the harsh Atlantic climate that is so difficult for winemakers and the hard, poor granite soil here can produce such fantastic wines. The Leirana is a great Spanish white wine with special refinement. Feel free to let it ripen for 4 to 5 years and thus gain in complexity.
Excellent to combine with many fish dishes, both as a starter and from the oven.
Fresh, powerful dry white wine with a beautiful aroma of ripe apple and melon. The taste is full, round, aromatic and ends with a long, persistent finish.
Now ready to drink, easy to keep for four to five years after harvest.
