Tasting note Piqueras VS
Full red with a shade of brown, aromatic with notes of coconut, toasted oak and notes of ripe black fruit. The full and round taste is persistent with soft tannins and a spicy aroma in the aftertaste.
There are still trouvailles in the wine world, especially outside the known areas. The ambitious winemakers Juan Pablo Bonete and Juan Pablo Cantos, located in the inferior, high-altitude Almansa, manage to surprise with their top wine of monastrell and garnacha tintorera, which are harvested very late by Spanish standards, from early to even the end of October. The grapes sometimes come from sticks that are 100 years old, which are not irrigated, are not leashed and are organically grown. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 850 meters, so that the grapes ripen for a long time and evenly and retain sufficient freshness. A prerequisite for top quality, because the slow ripening also produces more aromas and flavors than with rapid ripening. The garnacha yeasts in wooden barrels, the monastrell in stainless steel tanks. This is followed by the second fermentation and the 15-month maturation for both wines in oak barrels. The result is an impressive, full-bodied red wine with a very seductive scent of ripe dark fruit with a beautiful oak wood touch. The taste is round, full but also with a mild spiciness and light smokiness from the barrel ripening. Magnificent!
