Information
vineyards situated high (850 m).
impressive and modern
trouvaille in 'forgotten' Almansa
full, round, mildly spicy and beautiful oak

Tasting note Piqueras VS

Full red with a shade of brown, aromatic with nuances of coconut, toasted oak and notes of ripe black fruit. The full and round taste is persistent with soft tannin and a spicy aroma in the aftertaste.

Description

There are still trouvailles in the wine world, especially outside the well-known areas. The ambitious winemakers Juan Pablo Bonete and Juan Pablo Cantos, located in the high-altitude area of Almansa, have managed to surprise with their top wine made from monastrell and garnacha tintorera. These are harvested very late by Spanish standards, from the beginning to even the end of October. The grapes come from vines that are sometimes 100 years old, which are not irrigated, not kept on a leash and are grown organically. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 850 meters, so the grapes ripen long and evenly and retain sufficient freshness. A prerequisite for top quality because slow ripening also produces more aromas and flavors than fast ripening. After manual picking in containers of a maximum of 12 kilos, the first fermentation follows. The garnacha ferments in wooden barrels, the monastrell in stainless steel tanks. This is followed by the second fermentation and the 15-month maturation for both wines in oak barrels. The result is an impressive, full-bodied red wine that smells very seductively of ripe dark fruit with a beautiful oak touch. The taste is round, full, but also with a mild spiciness and light smokiness from the cask maturation. Beautiful!
