Description

Château de Pitray in Castillon has been in the same family for over six hundred years. But recently a new wind is blowing on the domain. Owner Jean de Boigne succeeded his parents and started working with winemaker Nina Mitjavile, who comes from a famous Saint-Émilion family.

Growing up among wine barrels, she learned the trade from her father, Bordeaux personality François Mitjavile. He is the man behind the world-famous Tertre Roteboeuf Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and Roc de Cambes in Côtes de Bourg. Nina is co-owner of both and ran Roc de Cambes with her father for over ten years. At Pitray she has been appointed to lead the domain to the top of the appellation. Judging from this 2020, her first harvest, she is already well on her way.

The merlot, cabernet franc and malbec for the second wine Les Prairies are harvested in the 60 hectares of vineyards of Pitray, planted on a terroir of clay and limestone as in neighboring Saint-Émilion. After fermentation, she matures the wine partly in used wooden barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks, for a nice balance between fruitiness and ripening notes.

Les Prairies is beautifully open and accessible, with notes of ripe red fruit, cedar and graphite. Bordeaux of Saint-Émilion quality, for a particularly competitive price.

Drink with

Modern, oak-aged Bordeaux to enjoy solo or with tasty dishes. Delicious with steak bordelaise, candied duck leg, gratinated vegetable dish with red pepper or aged Dutch cheeses.

Tasting note

Ruby red wine with a refined scent of red currant, cherry, plum, cedar and caramel. The taste is full and soft with ripe fruit, a beautiful freshness and supple tannins. Elegant finale with notes of licorice and mocha.

Shelf life

Now beautiful and can be kept for at least 8 years after harvest.
