definition
Domaine la Bouissière, run by the brothers Thierry and Gilles Faravel, is one of the top domains of Gigondas. In addition to impressive, powerful wine from this Rhône cru and from neighboring Vacqueyras, the brothers also make this smooth and accessible Les Amis. From slightly less chic vineyards, but with just as much care and attention as the luxury cuvées.
Les Amis is a special blend of the local syrah and grenache with a share of merlot, an exotic in these regions. Gilles pays a lot of attention to the vineyards, which are worked organically - albeit not certified. The yields keep Gilles and Thierry low, for a nice concentration of flavour.
After the manual harvest, the grapes are partly destemmed, part is fermented in whole bunches. An important spearhead of winemaker Thierry, who notes that the co-fermentation of the stems leads to a beautiful freshness and tension in the wine. After aging in concrete vats, which preserves the wine's pure, fruity character, Les Amis is bottled without filtering and clarification.
It produces a classic and very tasty 'vin de table': juicy, supple and accessible, but with just a little more body and structure than a 'vin de soif'. The Les Amis does not need ripening, although you can certainly store it for a while. Drink it at the table or not, but in any case in good company. After all, it's all in the name.
