Tasting note Corpinnat Castellroig Reserva Brut Nature
Fine mousse, fresh, youthful aroma with floral notes and some citrus. The taste starts crisp and dry and finishes juicy and balanced with a lingering mousse.
Description
Castellroig is the name of the popular sparkling wine from the small Catalan family estate Sabaté i Coca. The company specializes in terroir-driven wines. Winemaker Marcel Sabaté produces it in two variants: the 'standard' Reserva Brut and the Reserva Brut Nature.
Both sparkling wines are made from the traditional local varieties Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada, sourced from 30 different plots. The grapes are vinified separately and then blended, after which the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle—the traditional method for sparkling wines. Once fermented, the wine ages in the bottle for at least 18 months.
The difference between the two wines is the dosage, or the amount of sugar added after disgorgement. While the Brut receives a dosage of 7 g/l of sugar, which makes it somewhat rounder and softer, nothing is added to this Brut Nature.
This results in a beautiful dry, somewhat crisper style of sparkling wine, which is excellent as an aperitif. It is also very suitable to pair with oysters, fish dishes, or creamy cheeses.
