Eisacktal Alto Adige Lagrein 2022

Description

Kellerei Eisacktal may have a reputation for its sparkling white mountain wines, but the cantina also makes some special, refined red wines in the Eisacktal in Alto Adige. For example, this characterful Lagrein, made from the local grape variety of the same name that is related to the pinot noir and the syrah.

The grapes are harvested in vineyards at an altitude of 250 to 400 meters. Thanks to the relatively warm, siliceous soils, the lagrain can ripen perfectly here while retaining its fresh acidity.

Once harvested, they are macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Then winemaker Hannes Munter lets the wine mature on the yeasts in large wooden barrels.

The result is a striking red wine, with an expressive scent of berry fruit, violets, cocoa and spices. The taste is fresh, juicy and intense, with fine tannins. Perfect with a plate of Italian meats, porchetta or veal cheek.
