Description

Anyone who has visited Sicily is likely familiar with them. Palmentos: the distinctive stone buildings where grapes were formerly pressed by foot, the juice fermented, and the wine aged. There was a time when just about every Sicilian family owned one. Nowadays, for hygiene reasons, it is no longer permitted to make wine in palmentos. However, those that remain bear witness to the rich winemaking tradition the island possesses. And this series of house wines is an ode to that.

Grillo is a true Sicilian classic. After Catarratto, it is the most widely planted white grape on the island. Understandably so, as the Grillo grape thrives exceptionally well in Sicily's warm, dry climate. The grapes for the Palmento are harvested by plot and by hand. This method ensures that only the optimally ripe grapes are used for the wine.

In the cellar, a modern vinification process follows, involving pressing, fermentation, and aging in stainless steel tanks. This results in a seductive, fruit-rich Grillo with a pure, smooth taste and a surprisingly modest alcohol content for a wine from a Mediterranean climate. Drink it on its own, with seafood, or with light pasta dishes. Very tasty!
