Tasting note Clos del Rey

Impressive Roussillon. Seductive scent of ripe blackberry and blueberry supplemented with nuances of black olive, leather and licorice. Powerful, full and creamy in taste with firm, polished tannins and perfectly intertwined acidity. Stays on for a very long time. Powerful full red wine to enjoy as is, or to serve with hearty (game) dishes. Drinkable from 4 years; can be kept for at least 10 years after harvest.

Description
The Clos del Rey is the top wine from the cult domain of the same name owned by father and son Montagné. Their winery is located in the heart of Maury, which has traditionally been known for its fortified sweet wines. Clos del Rey, on the other hand, has gained fame in recent years for its excellent quality dry red Roussillon wines.

That has everything to do with the fact that Jacques and Julien put quality above all else. Although they own no less than 50 hectares of vineyards, the majority of the grapes are sold to a local cooperative. They only make their wines from their 8 hectares of the very best plots.

Their prestige cuvée is made from predominantly carignan supplemented with grenache from no fewer than 130-year-old sticks. The grape plants grow at an altitude of about 300 meters, amidst the well-known southern French garrigue vegetation. The yields are extremely low: between 12 and 17 hectoliters per hectare.

After the manual harvest, the wine ferments spontaneously, after which the wine matures further in French oak barriques. However, the emphasis is not on the wood influence, so that the wine has a beautiful balance between fruit and structure. A beautiful wine not to be missed, with an unprecedented concentration! Be quick, because availability is limited.
