Castelo de Medina Nouveau Tempranillo
A bright red wine with a pure, seductive aroma of fresh red fruit (raspberry and cherry). The palate is full and juicy with mild tannins and a lingering finish. A fruity and supple red wine perfect for drinking on its own or serving with lightly spiced vegetable and meat dishes. It keeps well for up to three years after harvest.
Medina, known for our Verdejo from the Rueda
A Spanish wine with a French name? Yes, we found it a bit odd too when we first saw this wine. But once we tasted it, we understood the winemaker's intention. The designation "nouveau" is inextricably linked to the famous Beaujolais Nouveau.
Sara Román, the winemaker at Castelo de Medina, created a Spanish version. However, it's not a carbon copy of a light and crisp Beaujolais. The Spanish Tempranillo grape is different from the Gamay from Beaujolais. The Rueda region is also warmer, which ripens the grapes.
In our opinion, the Castelo Medina Nouveau is a Beaujolais plus with Spanish character. Riper fruit, more color, and more juiciness in the flavor. Simply delicious and a wonderful change from the "thick," full-bodied wines that aren't always suitable.
Serve Nouveau at cellar temperature, between 10 and 12°C. It's delicious with a summer barbecue, quiches, or chicken salads.
