| From idiosyncratic winemaker Jean-Paul Brun | |
| Refined, Burgundian style | |
| Exceptionally pure, subtle and fruity |
Tasting note Jean Paul Brun Pinot Noir
This is the only Pinot Noir in Brun's range, and it's of compelling quality. This superb vintage elevates the wine to a higher level. Smooth, with ripe Pinot Noir fruit, and beautifully refined.
Jean Paul Brun Winemaker
Jean-Paul Brun is a Bourguignon par excellence. He doesn't engage in "malpractices" like adding cultivated yeasts that give the wine a candy-like character. No, Jean-Paul loves good old-fashioned Beaujolais and therefore employs a Burgundian winemaking style.
He destems the grapes and ferments them traditionally in used oak barrels. Chaptalization (the addition of sugar) for higher alcohol levels is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, Brun doesn't add sulfites. He seeks pure fruit and terroir expression in his wines, so free from any embellishments.
Brun's Burgundian approach is reflected not only in his winemaking methods but also in his plantings. Besides Gamay, the most important grape in Beaujolais, he also has Chardonnay and—one of the few—Pinot Noir in his vineyards. From the latter, he makes a wine with the Burgundy appellation. Elegant, pure, and exceptionally refined. A delightful Burgundian Pinot, but not at a Burgundy price.
