Description
This Gris de Gris is a must-try for lovers of a light-colored, elegant rosé. It's a so-called "vin gris," or rosé made like a white wine. Because the skins don't come into contact with the juice, it hardly loses its color.
Winemaker Hugh Ryman makes it from the Grenache Gris grape, harvested around Carcassonne and in the Minervois region. And that's how the wine gets its name: a vin gris, made from Grenache Gris.
After hand-picking, Ryman presses the grapes immediately upon arrival at the cellar. This minimizes contact between skins and juice and keeps the wine's color as light as possible. After pressing, he ferments the juice at a cool temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures on the lees for another three months before bottling.
Gris de Gris has a beautiful, expressive aroma, with intense notes of raspberry, grapefruit, and watermelon. The palate is dry, juicy, and invigorating. The ultimate patio rosé, it also pairs wonderfully with summer salads, quiches, or light fish dishes.
