What is the Klare Wijn Podcast?

Klare Wijn is the name of the successful Instagram account of wine lover (and newsreader) Antoin Peeters. Recently he also makes a podcast together with his wine friend Ernstjan Overduin. In it you will hear the most fascinating stories from the wonderful wine world. Naturally, wine is also drunk, in keeping with the theme of the episode. We were allowed to select the wine for the Podcast, isn't it cool ?!

Episode 1: the bottle, the cork and the label

There it is: the very first Clear Wine Podcast! With a special theme right away, we are not going to be talking about wine, but about everything that surrounds it: the bottle, the cork and the label! And there is a lot to tell about that, about an hour and a half in this case. Did you know that the name 'butler' comes from 'to bottle'? And that a bottle with a screw cap can also have a cork? We go back 8,000 years, discuss the coolest labels and try to find out why large size bottles all have Biblical names. And of course we will taste wine. Because during this first podcast we drank four wines that fit the theme perfectly.

Would you like to taste the discussed wines? Order them here in the special Podcast sample package. The package consists of the following tasted wines:

Wine 1 | Sao Miguel Amphora Tinto

Alexandre Relvas, trained in Bordeaux, makes beautiful, pure wines from indigenous Portuguese grapes. Usually with modern techniques that provide beautiful fruit expression. But in the case of the Art.Terra, he harks back to the ancient Roman use of amphora jars. The stone jars replace oak casks and stainless steel tanks and give a different style of wine, also due to the use of wild yeast and the aging of 3 months in the elaborated yeast cells. Fermentation is very slow and the grape skins remain in contact with the juice for an extremely long time (60 days). Of course, that is only possible with a super healthy and ripe harvest. A very special, full-bodied red wine from aragonez, moreto and trincadeira grapes, planted on slate soil.

Wine 2 | Puech Haut Rose Argali Prestige

Fresh and delicate nose with aromas of white peaches and lychees, in addition to a hint of flowers and minerals. Sparkling, solid rosé with a lot of body and depth and a delicate fruity finish.

This exceptional rose is embraced by international wine journalists. The renowned wine journalist (former Robert Parker) Jeb Dunnuck has been a fan for years and recently even gave 90 points. Exceptionally high for a rose!

Wine 3 | Domaine Loew Sylvaner Verite

Dijon graduated oenologist Etienne Loew took over his parents' winery in Westhoffen in 2006, stopped selling grapes to the cooperative and switched to organic viticulture. Three years later he went one step further, with biodynamic viticulture. Etienne's technical knowledge guarantees pure vinification in the cellar. He wants to 'rehabilitate' the sylvaner and give it back the reputation that he believes befits this grape. He succeeds with this wine! The grapes - from vines over 80 years old - are fermented very slowly and with a 'winter break'. The result: a quality wine with a great concentration.

Wine 4 | Domaine Arjolle Paradoxe Blanc

Launched in 2011, the impressive white Paradoxe is of a level never before seen at Arjolle. François Teisserenc pulled out all the stops to make a sublime wine from mainly Viognier (60%) and Sauvignon grapes. These are picked by hand in mid-September from a plot with no less than 9,000 vines per hectare.

Due to this plant density, there is strong mutual competition and the yield at 25 hectoliters per hectare remains unprecedentedly low for the Mediterranean climate in the Languedoc. This plot, planted with Viognier and Sauvignon, is one of the very best quality vineyards of this family estate.

The maturation takes place in new oak casks from leading Bourgogne tonneliers and remains in contact with the 'lie' for 10 months. We can only praise the result. Keywords such as balance, elegance, freshness, luxury, extremely refined wood dosage and a long finish are applicable.

Just as good sommeliers do with exclusive white Bourgognes or Rieslings, pour the wine from a carafe. The aeration provides a great aromatic complexity. Fits effortlessly on the wine list of the best star restaurants!
