Description

More than five years ago, Hugh Ryman, owner of this family estate, made a radical decision: he replanted the Cabernet vines at a higher density. This had a positive effect on the quality of the red wines. The grapes became more concentrated in flavor and reached full ripeness more easily.

In this part of Bergerac – with a more continental climate than the Bordeaux region to the west – optimal grape skin ripeness is crucial for producing powerful wines with a soft touch. Furthermore, Ryman limits yields through a fully organic process.

The Cuvée Mirabelle is the estate's finest wine thanks to a rigorous selection of grapes. The 2010 harvest produced perhaps the finest wine Ryman has ever produced. Besides Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the wine contains approximately 45% Merlot, making the palate wonderfully accessible. The blend of the three grape varieties is aged for approximately sixteen months in small French oak barrels. While good Bergerac has its own distinct style, Jaubertie is a serious competitor to more expensive Bordeaux.
