A delicious barbera
An exuberant Italian wine with a deep, full-bodied red color and a fruity aroma of berries and cherries. Its fresh, robust flavor pairs well with cold meat dishes, spicy pasta, or grilled meats.
Claudio Conterno and Guide Fantino, the wine idols of Barolo
Conterno Fantino – founded in 1982 by Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino – has become a wine icon in Barolo. As a representative of the modern Barolo style, this producer makes fantastic and accessible wines from the Nebbiolo grape. Fortunately, these two talented winemakers also share a passion for Barbera, another famous Piedmontese grape.
The vines are situated in a prime location in Monforte d'Alba, right next to the best Barolo vineyards. Harvesting is late, in October, and yields are low. This results in long and even ripening, an absolute prerequisite for getting the best out of this grape. Unripe Barbera grapes, harvested too early from poorly situated vineyards or from high yields, result in an unpleasant, aggressively acidic flavor. How different is this beautiful Conterno Fantino.
Thanks to the ripe harvest and ten months of oak maturing, it's a pleasure to drink this wine now in its youth. Ideally, it's enjoyed with a meal or a nice Italian ham or salami.
