Segredos de São Miguel is a beautiful example of a modern, smooth-tasting red wine. It boasts the purity of a ripe, healthy harvest and the full expression of the indigenous Portuguese grapes Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional, and Trincadeira. Historically, Portuguese red wines often tasted harsh and unappealing. However, Alexandre Relvas, trained in Bordeaux, uses modern technical expertise to create a beautiful wine. The vineyards are located in the Alentejo, east of Lisbon. The grapes for the red Segredos are harvested at night, thus keeping them cool, macerated with the skins for 48 hours, and then fermented in tanks using oak staves. Approximately 10% is then aged for three months in large barrels.
