White wine from Puglia
A crisp, dry white wine from Italy with aromas of delicate yellow fruit and a hint of toast. The palate is smooth, pleasant, and persistent. Delicious with fish, pasta, and salads.
Description
The southern Italian region of Apulia has become particularly renowned for the excellent value of its red wines. In recent years, however, there has also been considerable experimentation with the cultivation of white grapes. One problem, however, is the relatively high summer temperatures in Apulia, which easily overripe the grapes and thus retain little acidity.
This is particularly true for Chardonnay, which many growers in Apulia consider an ideal grape despite this drawback. The dynamic Vecchia Torre cooperative in the town of Leverano disagrees and, in 2006, planted Vermentino, a grape variety that tolerates heat well.
The small vineyard, less than ten hectares in size, is nestled between two hills, attracting a nearly constant cooling breeze. This lowers the temperature, allowing the Vermentino to retain its desirable freshness and fruitiness. Significant investment has also been made in equipment that cools the white wine tanks, sustainably powered by solar panels.
Vecchia Torre also limits the yield in the vineyard, which gives the wine its exceptional quality. This small-scale white wine has been very successful since its introduction and tastes considerably more exclusive than its price suggests.

Heerlijk wijn mooi vol met klein frisje bij afdronk die absoluut niet zuur is. Wij drinken de wijn bij zeetong.
Deze wijn is aan mijn bestelling toegevoegd omdat een wijn die ik had besteld niet op voorraad was. Hier ben ik de dag na mijn bestelling door een medewerker over gebeld en zij stelde voor om in plaats daarvan een lekker wijntje uit te kiezen. Het kiezen van deze vervangende wijn is haar goed gelukt. De wijn is heerlijk vol met een frisje we hebben het samen met zeetong gegeten maar op zichzelf smaakt de wijn ook meer dan prima.
