Tasting note Chakana Malbec

Full and powerful red wine with a wonderfully soft taste and a nice aroma of ripe red fruit oak coffee and some mint. Combines well with tasty beef or game dishes.

Description

Wood-aged malbec from the Argentinian Chakana is the textbook example of the new generation of malbec wines from Mendoza. The Italian touch of owner Juan Pelizzatti winemaker Gabriel Bloise and consultant Alberto Antonini returns in the search for sophistication and freshness. It is therefore almost self-evident that high-altitude vineyards in Agrelo and Drummond are chosen at two locations on the foothills of the Andes.

Warm days interspersed with cool nights ensure ripe grapes that retain their fruitiness. The blend of grapes from the two regions gives a beautiful wine distinctive from other Mendoza bottoms that focus more on a sultry 'thick' taste. In addition, Chakana opts for maturing on casks made of refined French oak. The result? An impressive powerful but also very accessible malbec.
