Tasting note Alvear Pedro Ximénez Solera
A full-bodied sherry with a dark mahogany color. Intense flavor with hints of plum and chocolate. Delicious with blue cheese and dried fruit, but also with desserts or as a topping for ice cream.
Description
The Montilla-Moriles wine region lies north of the southern Spanish city of Malaga. For centuries, the region has been known for its yield of exceptionally high-quality Pedro Ximènez grapes. This grape variety is used in the production of both dry and sweet Montilla. Even the Spanish government recognizes its exceptional quality and allows the PX grapes harvested in Montilla to be sold as the much more popular DO Jerez Sherry. The PX 1927 is made from very sweet grapes dried on mats in the sun to which grape alcohol is added. The wine is aged for five years in a solera, which was established in 1927. In this system, wines from very different vintages are blended. Robert Parker: 96 points!
