A lovely Bobbal
Elegant, juicy red wine with a pure aromatic expression of raspberry, red cherry, bay leaf, mint, and toast. Delightfully full-bodied and seductive on the palate with red fruit, an invigorating freshness, and supple tannins. The finish is persistent with nuances of black olive and oak. Lovely to drink on its own. Also delicious with stir-fried veal dishes, coq au vin, or soft cheeses.
Spanish wine to throw a party with
PF is a breathtakingly beautiful prestige cuvée from Manchuela pioneer and Bobal expert Juan Antonio Ponce, sourced from one of his favorite vineyards. It is planted with Bobal vines over 85 years old. Because they predate the phylloxera plague, they are not grafted onto American rootstocks (Pie Franco). This is not only a rarity but also yields a wine with exceptional depth and finesse.
Juan Antonio cultivates his vineyards biodynamically. The vines in PF are planted on sandy soils – precisely the reason they survived the phylloxera plague, as the grape louse (which feeds on the roots of the plants) thrives poorly in sand. Juan Antonio harvests by hand in the Lincha, Gallo, and Olivares plots.
Once harvested, the grapes ferment on the bunches using indigenous yeasts. The former provides a refined structure, while the latter contributes to optimal terroir expression. After ten months of aging in large French oak barrels, the PF is bottled unfined and unfiltered to ensure none of its authentic character is lost.
The result is truly stunning: what finesse, subtlety, and complexity! With an alcohol content of only 13%, you would hardly believe it comes from hot, southern Spain. Juan Antonio produces only 9,000 bottles of PF, so don't miss your chance to discover this magnificent wine. And the name? It kills no less than three birds with one stone: Pre-Phylloxera, Pie Franco, and Ponce Familiar. A bullseye in every respect.
