One of Portugal's most classic wine regions has entered a new phase. Young winemakers have broken with the dry, aged style of the previous generation. They are now crafting elegant, world-class wines from the Dão's characteristic granite soil. A prime example is Casa da Passarella, where Paulo Nunes transforms grapes into great wines. This Œnologo white is made from the rare Encruzado grape from 45-year-old vines. The grapes ferment in steel tanks but then mature in small, used French oak barrels. The powerful wine easily handles this and retains the beautiful aromas of ripe fruit and fresh, lemony acidity. A unique, intense wine.
