DeMorgenzon DMZ Western-Cape Limited Release Roussanne 2024

 

 

Full-bodied, round dry wine with a pleasant aroma of ripe tropical fruit, toast, and light butter. The taste is full, round, and aromatic on the palate, with a soft, lingering finish.

 

Carl van der Merwe, the winemaker at DeMorgenzon, is a member of the prestigious Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) due to his exceptional craftsmanship. This guild of winemakers currently numbers around 50 members and represents the crème de la crème of Cape winemaking. A unique aspect of the guild is that it organizes an annual charity auction, where each member presents one or two wines. These highly exclusive top wines are bottled specifically for this event and sold exclusively by auction. One of Carl's CWG wines is a white Roussanne. This is remarkable, as this typical Rhône grape is rarely found in South Africa. For this special wine, Carl uses not only the best grapes from DeMorgenzon but also purchases fruit from old bush vines from friendly winemakers in Stellenbosch. Typically, he selects only the best barrel for the auction.

 

He uses the rest of the available wine as the base for the white Maestro. Carl decided to bottle a few exclusive casks especially for us. This Limited Release Roussanne is therefore a super-exclusive, oak-aged white wine – and at a very modest price. Be quick, as only a limited number of bottles are available.
