Tasting note Due Palme Montecoco
Delicious smooth, round southern Italian wine. Bright red in color, with a mild spicy aroma and nuances of candied red fruit. The taste is smooth and balanced and ends slightly fresh and round in the aftertaste. Good to combine with lightly seasoned dishes, pasta and pizza. Now drinkable and good for up to four years after harvest.
Salice Salentino, with its red clay bottoms, warm climate and cooling sea influence, is one of the best known appellations of the southern Italian wine region of Puglia. The DOC owes its reputation to its elegant but also solid red wines from the negroamaro grape.
The Montecoco of Cantine Due Palme also consists mostly of negroamaro, supplemented with a little malvasia nera. The grapes are harvested optimally ripe, and after fermentation, the wine ripens for half a year on barriques of French oak.
Juicyness, roundness and warmth, that is what characterizes the Montecoco. Despite the warm climate and the woodiness, the wine is deliciously smooth and drinkable. Drink it for example with grilled meat, or with classic parmigiana di melanzane (eggplant with Parmesan).
