Description
Markus Huber believes that even a natural wine must be made purely and aims to showcase his craftsmanship with Kontrast. He selects no fewer than 10 different Old Austrian grape varieties, including Grüner Veltliner, Frühroter Veltliner, Roter Veltliner, Neuburger, and Riesling. The grapes are harvested from a plateau vineyard at an altitude of 380 meters. One-third ferments on the skins, one-third of the harvest is pressed immediately, and the remainder is a combination of both methods. Aging is also carried out in various ways: in large wooden barrels, cement tanks, stainless steel vats, and small 225-liter casks, always 'sur lie'. The unique combination of vinification styles and grape varieties results in a beautiful, complex white wine. Fermentation takes place without the addition of SO2; only 20 mg per liter is added just before bottling. Kontrast is organically certified and is not filtered or clarified.
Drinks with
Original, crisp dry natural wine that is gastronomically versatile. Delicious with rich fish dishes, poultry, seasonal asparagus, or Alpine cheeses.
Tasting note
Straw-yellow colored wine with slight cloudiness. The aroma is restrained with ripe apple, peach, apricot, brioche, and almond. Accessible and full-bodied with mild acidity. The finish is persistent with light toast and peach peel bitterness.
Shelf life
Beautiful now; keeps for approximately 3 years after harvest.
