Rich Silvaner of Thörle

Subtle aromas of ripe pear, peach, pear, and green herbs. Crisp, dry, and beautifully juicy. A mild, mouth-pleasing wine with a savory bite on the finish.

A well-known Silvaner from the Franken region

Traditionally, the German wine region of Franconia is known for Silvaner, but Rheinhessen now also enjoys an excellent reputation for this characterful white grape. This is thanks to excellent producers like Weingut Thörle.

Brothers Christoph and Johannes convincingly demonstrate that Rheinhessen, combined with the right terroir (limestone and marl soils in their case), can produce the finest Silvaner. They therefore use top-quality grapes: an "early harvest" of Silvaner from the prestigious Probstey and Schlossberg crus.

While Silvaner can sometimes be a bit heavy, Johannes is dedicated to harvesting his grapes fresh and juicy, not overripe. This ensures the wine retains a nice tension and doesn't become too heavy or alcoholic. The wine is fermented and aged primarily in stainless steel tanks, with a very small portion aged in 500-liter oak barrels.

With its appealing pear fruit and mild creaminess, this Gutswein is a true classic and typical Silvaner. The crisp acidity, light spice, and hints of flint create a perfect balance. Impressively good for under ten euros and delicious with asparagus!
