White wine from Languedoc Roussillon
The white Château Puech Haut is a beautiful example of excellent, classic Southern French white wine and the perfect answer to the dominance of Sauvignon and Chardonnay. For a growing number of French winemakers and sommeliers, the Languedoc excels through its traditional grape varieties, such as Roussanne, Marsanne, and white Carignan. Puech Haut, for example, produces a full-bodied, rich white wine from hand-picked grapes from a low-yield vineyard.
After fermentation, the wine is aged for eight months in tanks, with regular bâtonnage during the first few months. Only 20% of the wine is aged in small second- and third-year oak barrels. This beautiful, original white wine pairs perfectly with fish dishes and risotto, but is also impressive when enjoyed outside of the meal. Château Puech Haut is the success story of Gérard Bru. He expanded his family estate, located about 15 kilometers northeast of Montpellier, into one of the leading Languedoc producers.
Decanter magazine ranks Puech Haut alongside the best southern French producers, such as Mas de Daumas Gassac, Grange des Pères, and Peyre Rose. Philippe Cambie, a consultant winemaker, is known for his work with top wineries in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
