A delicious blend from Coteaux du Pont du Gard
Full-bodied dry white wine from the South of France. Rich color, powerful aroma with nuances of ripe to overripe yellow fruit and honey. The taste is full, round, and persistent, with mild acidity and a long, aromatic finish. Ready to drink at least one year after harvest, easily keeps for 3 to 4 years.
The old vines from Terre d'Argence
François and Anne Collard of Domaine Mourgues du Grès make their wines in Costières de Nîmes, between the Rhône and the Camargue. The grapes for their Terre d'Argence line come from vineyards with old vines, ensuring richness and concentration. The name Terre d'Argence refers to this, as well as to the silvery sheen of the rustling leaves of the olive trees in the vineyard.
The blend for the white Terre d'Argence is special: it is a combination of Rhône grapes Viognier and Rousanne and the aromatic Sud-Ouest grape Petit Manseng. Because the latter grape is not permitted in the AOC Costières de Nîmes, the wine is 'declassified' to IGP Pont du Gard. However, it is anything but an inferior wine!
Because the vines are old, yields are low and the grapes are therefore very concentrated in flavor. After fermentation, during which no sulfites are used, the wine ages for another year, one-third in wooden barrels. It produces a lush, rich white wine with ripe fruit, roundness, and minerality. Preferably drink it with a meal, ranging from poultry and white meat to curries and spicy cheeses.
