The new sparkling wine from Spain
Refined mousse, complex aroma with nuances of toast, ripe pineapple, and aged floral notes. The palate is dry, elegant, and with a long, lingering, and aromatic finish.
xarel-lo and macabeo grape
The Josep Coca Brut Nature is the prestige sparkling wine from the artisanal Sabaté i Coca estate, located in the Penedès region. The family has owned vineyards in the region for four generations and has a strong reputation for their terroir-driven sparkling wines of outstanding quality.
The grapes for this top-quality wine come from just four of the estate's 66 plots. These plots were originally planted by Josep Coca, the maternal grandfather of winemaker Marcel Sabaté.
The Xarel-lo and Macabeo are harvested by hand and vinified separately. The base wines are then blended and bottled for a second fermentation in the bottle – as is customary in Champagne. Once fermented, the wine is aged for a further four years in the bottle, giving it an impressively rich and complex character.
The result is easily comparable to a Vintage Champagne: refined, layered, and with a wonderful balance between freshness and maturity. Given its distinctive character and robust body, Josep Coca is an excellent food wine.
Interesting detail: the signature on the label doesn't say Josep, but José Coca. Under Franco's regime, Catalan names weren't permitted, so the Spanish variants had to be used.
