Tasting note Corpinnat Josep Coca Brut Nature

Refined mousse, complex in aroma with nuances of toast, ripe pineapple and aged floral notes. The taste is dry, elegant and with a long, lingering and aromatic finish.

Description

The Josep Coca Brut Nature is the prestige mousseux of the Sabaté i Coca artisanal domain located in the Penedès. The family has owned vineyards in the region for four generations and now enjoys a great reputation for their terroir-driven sparkling wines of excellent quality.
The grapes for this top wine come from only four of the total 66 plots on the domain. These plots were once planted by Josep Coca, the maternal grandfather of winemaker Marcel Sabaté.

The xarel-lo and macabeo are harvested by hand and vinified separately. The base wines are then blended and bottled for a second fermentation in the bottle - as is usual in Champagne. Once fermented, the wine ages in the bottle for another four years, giving it an impressively rich and complex character.

The result can easily be compared to a Vintage Champagne: refined, layered, and with a great balance between fraîcheur and maturity. Given its distinct character and sturdy body, the Josep Coca is an eating wine par excellence.
Interesting detail: the signature on the label says not Josep but José Coca. Under Franco's rule, Catalan names were not allowed and so the Spanish variants had to be used.

Drink with
Intense and complex wine, suitable with many dishes of fish or vegetables, but also delicious with a ripe cheese.
