Anyone who loves full-bodied, powerful, oak-aged red wines should definitely try this Riserva from Cantine Due Palme! While Due Palme's "regular" Primitivo di Manduria is relatively juicy and elegant by Southern Italian standards, this Riserva is an impressive, powerful version.

The Primitivo grapes are grown in the Manduria region, considered one of the finest Primitivo terroirs with its characteristic red soil (due to its high iron content). The grapes are harvested late. This results not only in a more concentrated flavor, with notes of jammy and dried fruit, but also in a full body. To select only the highest quality bunches, Due Palme harvests them by hand.

Once in the cellar, the grapes are crushed for skin maceration. After fermentation and pressing, they are aged for nine months in American oak barriques (small wooden barrels). In this case, the oak aging is not only intended to round out the wine's structure but also to impart a distinct oaky note.

The Riserva is therefore a distinctive, powerful red wine, with a full body and a robust structure. The flavor is intense and clearly influenced by the oak aging: notes of cherries, plums, and fig jam are complemented by vanilla, cloves, and coconut. In short, an impressive red wine that deserves a hearty game dish or stew, or a board of aged hard cheeses.

Tasting note

A ruby-red wine with a sun-drenched aroma of plum, blackcurrant, tobacco, fig paste, and oak. A rich and sultry palate with jammy fruit, soft tannins, and mild acidity. The finish is intense with notes of raisins and mocha.
