Chenin Blanc As Cederberg can only make him.
Light yellow colored, dry white wine with a complex aroma of ripe yellow fruit (apricot, nectarine), thyme and vanilla. Full, juicy at the start and a rich, creamy flavor structure. Seductive, round and soft with a hint of honey in the aftertaste.
Cederberg, South Africa
On the South African west coast, about 1000 kilometers above sea level, is the beautiful nature reserve Cederberg, with the winery of the same name. David Nieuwoudt, the owner and winemaker, represents the fifth generation. The many years of connection of the Nieuwoudt family to the area is the inspiration for the exclusive, luxurious Five Generations series.
The Chenin Blanc comes from a single vineyard. Only in excellent vintages, David bottles only seven barrels (less than 4000 bottles) of this wine. After the grapes are harvested by hand, the wine ferments in partly new and partly used wooden barrels. After fermentation, the wine remains in the barrel for about eleven months, with regular bâtonnage (stirring of the yeasts) for extra depth. The addition of a little bit of Viognier (10%) gives extra aromatic complexity.
It is not without reason that this impressive Chenin has already achieved 4.5 out of 5 stars several times in the Platter's Guide, the independent guide to South African wines. In the nose, the 'Five Gen' is refined, with notes of citrus, stone fruit, honey, nuts and toast. The batonnage and oak maturation provide a rich, supple and structured mouthfeel. Drink this classy Cape wine in combination with, for example, creamy fish or poultry dishes, and preferably decant it before serving.
Drink at
Intense, full-bodied, oak-ripened white wine that goes well with grilled chicken and fish with creamy sauce, for example.
