Information
Exclusive single vineyard Chenin Blanc
From David Nieuwoudt, the fifth generation winemaker
Fermented and aged in oak
Already beautiful, drinkable until about ten years after the harvest

Chenin Blanc As only Cederberg can make him.

Pale yellow colored, dry white wine with a complex aroma of ripe yellow fruit (apricot, nectarine), thyme and vanilla. Full, juicy at the start and a rich, creamy flavor structure. Seductive, round and soft with a hint of honey in the aftertaste.

Cederberg, South Africa

On the South African west coast, about 1000 kilometers above sea level, lies the beautiful Cederberg nature reserve, which contains the winery of the same name. David Nieuwoudt, the owner and winemaker, represents the fifth generation. The Nieuwoudt family's longstanding relationship with the area is the inspiration for the exclusive, luxurious Five Generations series.

The Chenin Blanc comes from a single vineyard. Only in excellent vintages does David bottle only seven barrels (less than 4000 bottles) of this wine. After the grapes are harvested by hand, the wine is fermented in partly new and partly used wooden barrels. After fermentation, the wine remains in barrel for about eleven months, with regular bâtonnage (stirring the yeasts) for extra depth. The addition of a little bit of Viognier (10%) gives extra aromatic complexity.

It is not without reason that this impressive Chenin has been awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars in the Platter's Guide, the independent guide to South African wines. In the nose the 'Five Gen' is refined, with notes of citrus, stone fruit, honey, nuts and toast. The batonnage and oak aging provide a rich, smooth and structured mouthfeel. Drink this Cape class wine in combination with creamy fish or poultry dishes, for example, and preferably decant it before serving.

Drink at

Intense, full-bodied, oak-aged white wine that goes well with, for example, grilled chicken and fish with creamy sauce.

Fermented with natural yeasts, which may partly explain why it contains a little residual sugar, this wonderful Chenin comes from a block planted in 2003 and combines stone and citrus fruit flavors in a seamless whole. Sappy and fresh, with perfumed 30% new oak. 2020-24.

In stellar 2016, as in 2015, 10% viognier adds delicious perfume to concentrated peach, pineapple and cooked apple, delicate spice, cream and muesli hints from 100% barrel ferment, third in new oak. Excellent vein of lime acidity keeps things snappy and fresh right through to finish.
