Syrah from the Pays d'Oc
A full-bodied, supple red wine with a rich flavor. The nose is characterized by aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and bay leaf. Mouth-filling, creamy, and supple in texture with a light spiciness in the lingering aftertaste. Perfect for drinking on its own or with spicy (meat) dishes. Keeps for three to four years after harvest.
Domaine Coudoulet
The Syrah from Domaine Coudoulet is a beautiful example of a skillfully crafted, authentic, southern French red wine. The current global trend toward producing thick, creamy red wines with abundant oak is causing many wines to resemble each other, with origins and even grape varieties becoming secondary.
Camille and Pierre André Ournac contrast this with their terroir-specific Syrah. The grapes are harvested at the perfect moment, without any signs of overripeness. They then ferment, virtually without intervention, in concrete vats. No oak barrels are used for aging. This results in a "fruit-forward" red wine with a pure, seductive aroma and wonderful balance.
Smooth enough to drink on its own, but also refreshing enough to serve with food. Think tarte flambée, barbecues, or a baguette with cheese and sausage. Serve the wine at room temperature, around 15°C (59°F), as is customary in the South of France. This will allow this red wine to truly shine.
