Pinot Noir at its best
A German red wine with aromas of cherries and red berries, and a mild oaky note. The flavor is ripe and smooth. A lovely pairing with poultry, rabbit stew, or a mild cheese.
Christoph & Johannes Thörle
Brothers Christoph and Johannes Thörle took over the family business in Saulheim, Rheinhessen, Germany's largest wine region, in 2006. They are ambitious and like to do things their own way. Unlike many typical German wineries, they don't have a wide range of different grape varieties.
They limit themselves to a handful of classic varieties like Riesling and Silvaner for whites, and Pinot Noir for reds. In their Pinot Noir wines, the Thörle brothers strive for an optimal balance between acidity, aromatic intensity, and ripeness.
The Gault & Millau wine guide (2015) gets it right: "Thörle is becoming increasingly refined, more Burgundian, so to speak. The basic wines are wonderfully juicy, the mid-range wines impressive. A new high point at a high level!"
