Wood-matured Mendoza Malbec
A full-bodied and powerful red wine with a wonderfully smooth flavor and a beautiful aroma of ripe red fruit, oak, coffee, and a hint of mint. Pairs well with flavorful beef or game dishes.
Italian from Mendoza
Oak-aged Malbec from Argentina's Chakana is a textbook example of the new generation of Malbec wines from Mendoza. The Italian touch of owner Juan Pelizzatti, winemaker Gabriel Bloise, and consultant Alberto Antonini is evident in their quest for refinement and freshness. It's therefore almost natural to choose high-altitude vineyards in Agrelo and Drummond, two locations in the foothills of the Andes.
Warm days alternating with cool nights produce ripe grapes that retain their fruitiness. The blend of grapes from the two regions produces a beautiful wine that stands out from other Mendoza wineries, which focus more on a sultry, full-bodied flavor. Chakana also chooses to age the wine in barrels of refined French oak. The result? An impressively powerful yet very approachable Malbec.
