Description

The organic wines of Le Clos du Caillou are of exceptional quality and refinement. Despite the warm Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir, Bruno Gaspard and owner Sylvie Vacheron manage to infuse their wines with a rare elegance. They produce a style and quality that many consider the future for this renowned region. Here, they have become accustomed to harvesting overripe Grenache grapes, which consequently produce very alcoholic and heavy wines.

A style that is heavily criticized and vastly different from this estate's Le Bouquet des Garrigues. The vineyards of this luxurious Côtes du Rhône border Châteauneuf-du-Pape, separated only by the Route Nationale. The plantings are dominated by primarily 50-year-old Grenache vines, with additional 15% Syrah, 10% Carignan, and 10% Mourvèdre. The yield is very low, averaging 25 hectoliters per hectare.

The harvest is done manually, with an initial selection in the vineyard, followed by a second selection upon arrival in the cellar. Bruno Gaspard selects only the very best grapes for Le Bouquet des Garrigues and ferments them in concrete vats. Maturation takes place for 15 months in large oak barrels. The result is a highly acclaimed Côtes du Rhône worthy of comparison with fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
