Deep red wine with a subdued aroma of ripe black fruit and slightly roasted nuances. The taste structure is full, spicy and with a lingering aftertaste.
Description
Dom Rafael is Mouchão's most accessible red wine, one of the great classics in the Portuguese wine world. A wine estate of 38 hectares, owned since 1901 by the Reynolds family, where time has stood still and which was only connected to electricity in 1991. Here wine is made without haste, as in the old days. The hand-picked grapes (alicante bouschet, aragonez and trincadeira) are brought to the cellar in 20 kilo containers and pressed by feet in lagares, large open fermentation tanks, and then slowly fermented. After fermentation, the wine stays for 12 months in casks of different contents (225, 2500 and 5000 litres). This is a beautiful, classically made Portuguese wine, very distinct from the modern school.
