The Mouchão red wine
An intense red wine with a beautiful aroma of fine herbs, ripe red fruit, and oak. The flavor structure is full, powerful, and balanced; the finish is long, complex, and lingering.
The Portuguese of the Reynolds family
Mouchaõ is one of the great classics of the Portuguese wine world. A 38-hectare wine estate, owned by the Reynolds family since 1901, where time has stood still and electricity was only connected in 1991. Here, wine is made without haste, just as it was in the past. The hand-harvested grapes are still pressed by foot in lagares, large open fermentation tanks, and then slowly fermented. The premium Mouchão wine is internationally recognized as one of the very best Portuguese wines and is made primarily from Alicante Bouschet (70%) and Trincadeira grapes. After fermentation, Mouchão is aged for between 24 and 36 months in large wooden barrels, depending on the quality of the harvest. This is an impressive red wine that is best enjoyed by aerating it in a decanter well before serving. Mouchão recommends serving it at around 17ºC.
