Information
Top wine from Master of Wine Richard Kershaw
Inspired by the finest Pinots from the Old World
Made from specific Burgundy clones
From Elgin, South Africa's coolest climate

Description

When Master of Wine Richard Kershaw started his own wine estate in 2012, he had a clear goal in mind: to produce top-tier, terroir-typical, cool-climate wines from specifically selected grape clones. He therefore settled in Elgin, South Africa's coolest wine region, and planted the noble grape varieties Chardonnay, Syrah, and Pinot Noir.

Because Elgin is situated at a high altitude, enjoys proximity to the ocean, and experiences a wide range of day and night temperatures, the cool-climate Pinot Noir thrives there. Richard planted three distinct French clones, which produce distinctly aromatic, refined wines with fine tannins.

Once optimally ripe, the grapes are harvested and selected by hand. After destemming, spontaneous fermentation follows, followed by several days of skin maceration. The wine is then transferred to predominantly used French oak barrels (228 and 300 liters) for aging for eleven months.

This creates a fresh, elegant Pinot Noir, originating from the New World but with Old World influences. Ideal with refined poultry or lamb dishes. Serve in Burgundy glasses for an optimal drinking experience.
