Description
François Teisserenc is a winemaker who can truly do everything. He has previously proven his talent for skillfully crafted non-alcoholic wines and outstanding, crystal-clear natural wines. To the latter range, the renowned Brut de Cuves, he now adds this Brut d'Orange, or in other words, a true 'orange wine'.
Orange wine sounds quite exotic, but in fact, it is the oldest method of winemaking, as was common in Georgia millennia ago. Today, an 'orange wine' is a white wine made like a red. This means that the skins of the white grapes are soaked in the juice after crushing before being pressed. This gives the wine its distinctive orange or amber color.
François makes his Brut d'Orange predominantly from the aromatic Muscat à Petit Grains. And that is clearly reflected in the wine. It is intensely floral in aroma and taste, as well as beautifully fruity and spicy. Due to skin maceration, 'orange wine' always has a subtle bitter note from the tannins. In the case of this Brut, they are beautifully ripe.
Drink this special, dry orange wine as a surprising and adventurous aperitif, but feel free to serve it at the table as well; given its structure, it can handle it well! L'Arjolle's recommendation? Duck with orange sauce, aged cheeses, or a fruit dessert.
