This wine comes from the 'Cepas Madre' plot, the oldest of the estate, planted in 1930. The vines are specially selected and therefore of high quality, with a low yield. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and then in concrete tanks.
Bright intense color. Floral nose and aromas of ripe fruit (cherries, red plums) integrated with subtle banquet nuances. Fruity, fleshy and a friendly mouthfeel. Balanced tannin structure and nice acidity. Fresh, with balsamic nuances. Structured and a very well integrated wood. Balanced, pure and fine, with great persistence.

We've got him! After many tasting sessions, we selected a Rioja producer that suits us perfectly and fits in well with the range of Vivanco and Tierras de Murillo.
It is the small-scale bodega Viña del Lentisco of the Villota family that markets the wines under their own name. At the moment the total production is 40,000 bottles.
The history is special. Vineyards have been family owned since 1930. In 1973, Ricardo Pérez Villota took the initiative with CVNE to create Viñedos Contino on the basis of his vineyards. He was a director for many years but in 2013 decided to sell his share and break away from CVNE. The family starts a new bodega with top quality, old vineyards next to those of Contino, right on the river Ebro in Rioja Alavesa, just in the Basque Country. The vineyards are cultivated without pesticides and herbicides. The first wine will be on the market in 2016.
The bodega was recommended to us as a 'secret tip' by several Spanish contacts and we were very impressed by the purity and expression of the wines. In short: first-class fruit with super nice tannins due to perfect peel ripeness. Modern made with an oak influence of great (French) class. Immediately seductive as soon as the bottle is open with an impressive length. We don't come across this quality very often!
