Description
“Riesling is a specialty of the house,” says Christoph Thörle. Together with his brother Johannes, he owns approximately nineteen hectares of vineyard in the northern part of Rheinhessen. In addition to Riesling, the brothers focus largely on white Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) ) and blue Spätburgunder grapes. “Every vine, every grape and every wine bears our stamp,” says Christoph.
The Riesling grapes for this wine come from various vineyards in the village of Saulheim. The soil consists predominantly of limestone and calcareous loess. In a temperate climate, this substrate is ideal for slow and balanced ripening of the grapes.
After crushing the grapes, a cold soak of approximately sixteen hours follows, during which the juice comes into contact with the skins for optimal fruit expression. The fermentation then takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine rests on the dead yeast cells 'sur lie' for approximately four months for extra depth and complexity.
Drink with
Refreshing white wine to drink as an aperitif, or excellent to combine with salads with fish, Asian dishes (nasi) or cheese fondue.
Tasting note
Expressive, fresh-dry white wine with notes of lime, granny smith, pear and light toast. Wonderfully juicy and at the same time lively and fresh in taste. The final is flawless and persistent with pure citrus fruit.
Shelf life
Nice to drink soon after bottling and can be kept for up to 4 years after harvest.
